John David Hawthorne of Geneva, Alabama passed away on Monday, October 5, 2026, at his residence. He was 71 years old.

David was born on March 30, 1955 in Jay, Florida to the late Hubert Eugene and Nellie Jordan Hawthorne Carter.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, David Lamar Hawthorne; brother, Hubert Lamar Hawthorne; and brother-in-law, Lamar Shiver.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2026, in the chapel of the former Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Geneva. Burial will follow in the Poplar Head United Methodist Church Cemetery with Shelby Lett of Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home directing. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the chapel in Geneva.

Survivors include his wife, Tammy Hawthorne; children, John David Hawthorne, Josh (Katie) Sewell, Fred (Amanda) Alberson, Eric (Amy) Alberson, Lee Alberson, and Greyson Alberson; grandchildren, Hayden, Camryn, Terry, Brody, Brantlee, William, Destiny and Ayden; brothers, Eugene Richard (Luann) Hawthorne and Rodney Lee Hawthorne; sisters, Earnestine Shiver and Brenda (Larry) Zorn.
